Rio de Janeiro Airport Terminals

Rio de Janeiro Airport (GIG), or also known as Galeao International Airport or Rio Galeao Airport, is the international airport serving Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is located in Governador Island, about 20 km from Rio de Janeiro city centre.

Rio Galeao Airport has 2 passenger Terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Both Terminals are connected between them. For the non-Brazilian citizens arriving at the International Arrivals area, expect a quiet long transfer procedure in passport control. There is an Express Bus going to the domestic airport Santos Dumont, which you can take in downtown every 20 minutes from 05:30h to 22:30h.

Terminal 1

With a shape of half circle, it has 4 floors and has both domestic and international flights. It has the following aerolines:

- Iberia
- & KLM

It has the following banks:
- Bradesco
- Banco do Brasil
- Safra banks

The floor 0 of Terminal 1 has entrance and exit doors from A to H with 3 baggage claim areas. Central doors C and D lead to International Arrivals with Banks, post office, car rental and dutty free shops. There is a VIP lounge near entrance A.

At the floor 1 of Terminal 1 you’ll find the Departures and check-in area, from doors A to E. You’ll find the International Departures in doors B and C and domestic Departures in doors C to E. In the entrance next to the fountain you’ll find lockers. After the check-in there are baby care facilities.

At the floor 2 of Terminal 1 of Rio de Janeiro Galeao Airport, you’l find retaurants, shops, banks and sleeping facilities. With a passport control area, there is the Rio Airport Hotel, the First Aid, a Chapel, Demoissel, banks etc..

Last floor 3 of Terminal 1 offers banking facilities, pharmacies, hairdresser, VIP lounges of Air France and Pro Air.

Terminal 2

Also shaped in half circle it has 3 levels and it helds both domestic and international flights along gates 22 – 39. It is operated by the following airlines:

- Edelweiss
- Emirates
- LATAM
- Lufthansa
- Passaredo
- TAAG TAP
- United airlines

At the floor 0 of Terminal 2 at the Arrivals area you’ll find entrance and exit doors A & B and C & D with a large duty free area. It is separated into domestic and international arrivals, with separate baggage claim and services and facilities.

The Mezzanine floor of Terminal 2 offers food and drinks stores, banks, parking access and duty free. The floor 2 of Terminal 2 has the Departures area with entrance and exit doors from A to D. For domestic flights the entrance door A leads you to check-in A, B and C. After the check-in you’ll find several stores duty free with access to the boarding area in the domestic gates from 25 to 32. For the international flights the entrance door C or D will lead you to the boarding gates 11 to 43. After the check-in you’ll find also duty free and various stores.

There is also the South Pier, the newest part of Terminal 2, which has the gates from 45 to 62. It has also a duty free area, good access facilities and VIP rooms (American Airlines VIP lounge, TAM’s VIP lounge, Plaza Premium luxury lounges).
